Eminem, Jay-Z Fans Recall Favorite Moments From Detroit Shows

There’s no question that Jay-Z and Eminem’s Home and Home Tour stops in Detroit were two of the biggest events the city’s hip-hop community has ever seen.

On the final night, Em and Hov fans recounted an unforgettable show to MTV News, in which rap titans like Dr. Dre and 50 Cent joined Shady and Jigga on the Comerica Park stage.

Although she “loves Eminem,” one D-Town fan gave Hov’s set the biggest props. “It had to be Jigga. Coming from underneath, giving a shout-out to [Michael Jackson], it was Jigga,” she said.

Another concertgoer said witnessing the hip-hop heavyweights rip up the stage with one of their classic collabos was her favorite moment of the night. “Probably when Eminem and Jay-Z got on the stage together [for ‘Renegade’],” Lindsay said, describing the show highlight. “That was pretty tight.” Fellow audience member Bridget echoed the same sentiment, bellowing, “Renegade!”

Some fans loved when Em made a move that few hip-hop stars have the clout to pull off, and brought out his mentor, Aftermath kingpin and rap pioneer Dr. Dre.

“My favorite part was when Dr. Dre came out,” said Jen, who was accompanied by a fellow Doc-loving pal. “We’ve been … big [fans] for forever.”

As Jay-Z and Em signed off from the Motor City, many fans were amped they were able to witness the historic show firsthand.

“I’m glad I was a part of it,” said Dianca. “It was a great concert, it was awesome. I love Jay-Z.”

Clutching an Eminem tee and bubbling with post-show energy, Christina was grateful for the opportunity to see the superstar MCs work magic in the D. “It was amazing. I’m glad I didn’t miss it,” she enthused. “I’m glad I got to be there. I really feel sorry for everyone who did miss it but it was awesome.”

Juanita trekked from Jacksonville, Florida but conceded that the Motown show was a singular event.

“I loved everything ’cause I love Jay-Z. I loved the [extra guests] they brought out, I love Dr. Dre. I love everybody, Eminem, everybody!” she said. “Go Detroit, yeah! Only in the D!”

Eminem Heads To Trial With High Profile Witnesses

Eminem is heading back to court today, kind of. Slim Shady’s publishing company F.B.T. Productions is scheduled to appear in court to address a lawsuit against Universal Music Group. F.B.T. claims that it was cheated out of money when Universal licensed songs to third party distributors like iTunes and cell phone companies. Most music contracts do not have specific instructions for how much money an artist is paid for digital distributions. With that said, this case could impact thousands of current music contracts. A jury was selected Friday for a trial that will feature high-profile witnesses like Jimmy Iovine, chairman of Universal Music Group, and Steve Jobs, the chief executive of Apple Computers. Jay Cooper, an entertainment lawyer in the music industry, says “This is very significant case. A lot of people are going to be watching very closely because there’s a lot of money involved.”

Eminem’s ‘Bottle’ Breaks Digital Record

The rap triumvirate of Eminem, Dr. Dre and 50 Cent will soar 78-1 on The Billboard Hot 100 to be posted tomorrow morning (Feb. 12) with “Crack a Bottle,” which sets a Nielsen SoundScan record for opening week download sales (418,000).

The first-week sum outpaces the prior mark of 335,000 downloads shifted by T.I. featuring Rihanna in the Oct. 18, 2008, issue. Among all weekly totals, “Bottle” ranks third behind Flo Rida’s “Low” (467,000 on Jan, 12, 2008) and Lady GaGa’s “Just Dance” (419,000 on Jan, 10, 2009).

“Bottle” is the second Hot 100 No. 1 for both Eminem and Dr. Dre. Slim Shady’s only leader was 2002’s “Lose Yourself,” which spent 12 weeks at the summit, while Dre last led in 1996 as a featured artist on Blackstreet’s “No Diggity.” 50 Cent ups his No. 1 take to four, having last topped the list with “Candy Shop” (9 weeks in 2005).

The trio, each with highly anticipated albums on the way, previously collaborated on “Encore,” which peaked at No. 25 on the Hot 100 in January 2005.

Eminem: Two New Albums This Fall?

Rapper Eminem, who’s been off the season for a while, is coming back with a vengeance this fall.

I’m told he will release two new albums come September. They are tentatively titled “Relapse” and “Relapse 2.”

The first release should come after Labor Day, and the next one in later fall, maybe November.

A source working on the recordings told me, of course, that they were brilliant. “His poetry is like Edgar Allen Poe.”

The source also said that Eminem’s lyrics will “offend and insult some people.” No kidding, when haven’t they? On the other hand, Kim Mathers, his ex wife, is said not to be the focus of Eminem’s bile. That’s a good thing.

Talk of the new Eminem albums came at EMI Music’s big Grammy after party at SLS Hote, thrown in conjunction with Stand Up For a Cure, the cancer charity. Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Katy Perry, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban, were just some of the celeb guests, as well as Sean Stewart (Rod’s son), Barbara Orbison (Roy’s widow), Donovan Leitch (the singer Donovan’s popular son), and comedian Chris Tucker.
